A PV system under the net-metering scheme applies to households and small-scale businesses and is directly connected to the electricity Network of the Electricity Authority of Cyprus (EAC). EAC customers are able to cover their daily energy consumption needs.

• Step 1: The agreed photovoltaic system is initially installed on the licensed roof of the household or small business.
• Step 2: The required Local Authority’s consent is secured.
• Step 3: The system is connected directly to the electricity network of EAC.
• Step 4: The household/business uses the electricity generated from the system to cover its consumption needs. If the generation exceeds the consumption, the surplus energy is credited on the following EAC bill. If the consumption exceeds the PV energy generation, the house uses conventional energy from the EAC grid and is charged for the excess consumption.

Solar energy increases the energy efficiency of your building that leads to high financial returns on your investment. The generator only pays the surplus amount of electricity if the consumption surpasses the generation of the system.

Vulnerable consumers subsidy

According to the current scheme of “RES and Energy Conservation Fund” vulnerable Consumers are eligible for €750 per kW installed and the maximum funding goes up to €3,750. To apply for this governmental subsidy you should follow the guidance on the provider’ website.

Residential consumers subsidy

“RES and Energy Conservation Fund” also provides a financial subsidy of €250 per kW installed, to EAC consumers that wish to install a Photovoltaic system at their permanent residence. The maximum available funding goes up to €1,000. To apply for this governmental financial subsidy you should follow the guidance on the provider’s website.

• A statement of the electricity consumption of your residence of the past year (provided by the customer service of the EAC)
• A bill from EAC with the applicant’s name, for the property of installation.
• The Energy Performance Certificate (In the occasion where the house is new and inhabited)
• EAC application for net-metering
• A consent form from the co-owner of the building that allows the photovoltaic system installation
• A copy of the building’s topographical plot and rooftop view
• Building permit of the building (by the respective Local Building Authority)
